Frequently Asked Questions
Do eBooks have page numbers?
eBooks often do not have page numbers in the traditional sense because the content can be adjusted to fit different screen sizes and font sizes. Instead, they may have a location or percentage indicator to help readers navigate through the book.
What is a fixed layout format eBook?
Fixed layout is a type of eBook format that is designed to keep the text and images in a specific location on each page, just like a printed book. This format is typically used for books with complex layouts, such as children's books, cookbooks, and graphic novels.
*Unfortunately due to their complex nature we no longer provide fixed layout conversion services.
What is a reflowable format eBook?
A reflowable eBook format is designed to give readers the flexibility to adjust font and font size according to their preference, just like a webpage. The text seamlessly adapts to the screen size, making it easy to read on any device, be it a Kindle, iPad, or Nook. This format is widely supported and ensures that the same file can be used across different platforms. For more information, check out the Wikipedia article on reflowable content.
What is a Mobi file?
Mobi is a eBook format used by Amazon Kindle devices. We provide an eBook KF8 Mobi file created using Amazon Kindle Gen which can be uploaded directly to Amazon's KDP for publishing.
What is a ePub file?
ePub is the most common eBook format and can be read by Apple iBooks, Kobo, Nook, Google Books and other reading apps.
Does my book need a cover image?
Kindle books must have an internal cover image provided for use within the book content. Provide a large, high-resolution cover, because Amazon quality assurance will fail the book if the cover is too small. The preferred format for the marketing cover is an image of 2560 pixels on the longest side and 1600 pixels on the shortest side with 350 dpi to ensure image clarity on Kindle HDX devices.
Can I use my own font?
Yes as long as you have a font license that allows embedding. Amazon has a quality assurance process to ensure that these fonts display well on e Ink-based devices and do not impair the reading experience. Do not include the Charis font; it is replaced with a higher quality font in the Kindle Readers. If no font is specified readers are allowed to customize their font to the pre-installed fonts Georgia, Caecilia, Trebuchet, Verdana, Arial, Times New Roman, Courier and Lucida.
How do I open an .ePub or .Mobi file?
For viewing ePub files we recommend using Apple iBooks or the Calibre reader. Calibre is a free download available for download from their website.
For viewing Amazon Mobi files we recommend Amazon's Mobi viewer called Kindle Previewer. Kindle Previewer is a free download available for download from their website at this link.
