Frequently Asked QuestionsDo eBooks have page numbers?
Due to their reflowable nature eBooks do not have page numbers. This allows readers to modify their font size to their liking and also allows the book to flow freely based on the reading device screen size.
What is a fixed layout format eBook?
Fixed Layout format forces images and text to appear in a specific location on each page so they appear very similar to their printed book counterpart regardless of what reader is being used.
Fixed Layout is typically used for children's books, art books, cookbooks, graphic novels with text set precisely and other titles with complex layouts.
Unfortunately due to their complex nature we no longer provide fixed layout conversion services.
What is a reflowable format eBook?
Reflowable layout is the most common eBook format used. It has the benefit of allowing reader's the freedom to pick their font and font size. This allows text to expand or shrink to fill the screen width, very similar to how web pages fit the window they are being viewed in. The same reflowable ePub file is often able to be used across many different devices (Kindle, iPad, Nook, etc). This Wikipedia article provides additional information on reflowable content.
What is a Mobi file?
Mobi is a eBook format used by Amazon Kindle devices. We provide an eBook KF8 Mobi file created using Amazon Kindle Gen which can be uploaded directly to Amazon's KDP for publishing.
What is a ePub file?
ePub is the most common eBook format and can be read by Apple iBooks, Kobo, Nook, Google Books and other reading apps.
Does my book need a cover image?
Kindle books must have an internal cover image provided for use within the book content. Provide a large, high-resolution cover, because Amazon quality assurance will fail the book if the cover is too small. The preferred format for the marketing cover is an image of 2560 pixels on the longest side and 1600 pixels on the shortest side with 350 dpi to ensure image clarity on Kindle HDX devices.
Can I use my own font?
Yes as long as you have a font license that allows embedding. Amazon has a quality assurance process to ensure that these fonts display well on e Ink-based devices and do not impair the reading experience. Do not include the Charis font; it is replaced with a higher quality font in the Kindle Readers. If no font is specified readers are allowed to customize their font to the pre-installed fonts Georgia, Caecilia, Trebuchet, Verdana, Arial, Times New Roman, Courier and Lucida.
How do I open an .ePub or .Mobi file?
For viewing ePub files we recommend using Apple iBooks or the Calibre reader. Calibre is a free download available for download from their website.
For viewing Amazon Mobi files we recommend Amazon's Mobi viewer called Kindle Previewer. Kindle Previewer is a free download available for download from their website at this link.
